|Abstract:||A field experiment was conducted during the year 1992-93 at Post Graduate Institute, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, to study the efficiency of fertilizer nitrogen applied through different nitrogenous fertilizers on uptake of nutrients, dry matter production and yield of rabi sorghum. The release of NH.+-N was found to be the highest in the treatments ANP+Urea and Urea alone during the early gYowth stages of rabL sorghum. However, the relaease of NO.,~-N in soil treated with different nitrogenous fertilizers showed an increasing trend in all the treatments throughout the incubation per iod. The results of the experiment revealed that rabi sorghum has shown substantial response to the application of nitrogen fertilizers. Amongst the different N carriers applied to rabi sorghum, the treatment ANP-MN was found to be efficient in influencing the growth and yield contributing characteristics. The treatments supplying NO., -N with someyy/WrN showed significant increase in grain as well as fodder yields. The grain yield of rabi sorghum was significantly higher from Ammonium Nitro Phosphate (ANP)+Urea and Ammoinium Nitro Phosphate (ANP)+ Ammonium Nitrate (AN) than from other sources. Dry matter production by rabi sorghum was found some what sensitive to changes in N form. ANP and Ammonium nitrate were found to be better sources of N for rabi sorghum in dry matter production at all stages of crop growth. Nitrogen applied to rabi sorghum through ANP+AN was found to be efficient in uptake of N by the crop. The ANP+AN was also found to be efficient in enhancing 'P' uptake by rabi sorghum. The uptake of K by the crop was found to be enhanced by the treatment ANP+AN and ANP+Urea, Different N carriers significantly affected available N in soil as well as available P and K in soil after the harvest of rabi sorghum. The lowest available N recorded by treatment ANP+AN. The different N carriers could be arranged as : ANP+AN>ANP+Urea>AN>Urea>AC>Control|
